Garrett A Jacobsen Scholarship Fund

In honor of Garrett A. Jacobsen

Garrett Jacobsen arrived at Denison in 1982 as a member of the Department of History to teach classical civilization and Latin courses. It can be said without hesitation that Garrett is the true founder of classical studies at Denison and the architect of the Ancient Greek & Roman Studies department and program. Without him, generations of students would not have felt the joy of learning about classical mythology, the Latin language, or Roman emperors; experienced summer classes abroad in Greece and Italy; or enjoyed the beauty of reading Homer or Ovid in their original languages (or translation).

In honor of all that he has done for the department and to create a resource to ensure that future students will have opportunities to continue studying Ancient Greek & Latin at Denison, an endowed scholarship has been created in Garrett's name. Expendable income from the Dr. Garrett Jacobsen Endowed Fund will be used to support the Department of Ancient Greek & Roman Studies with a preference for the study of antiquity by student educational enhancement.
